The exhibition
The exhibition Deux pièces takes its title from the French term used in dressmaking to describe a garment consisting of two autonomous yet interconnected pieces made from the same fabric. Duality forms the central conceptual axis of the exhibition and is approached as relationship, division, and recomposition.
Readymade objects such as glass spheres, glass contact lenses, mirrors, porcelain figurines, and flower stands are combined with black-and-white photographs and raw organic elements, composing a surreal universe that questions singularity and highlights the multifaceted condition of duality. Units are cut in half, pairs form new unities, and symmetrical compositions create a dialogue between the self and the other, the before and the after, the first and the second version. The artist himself treats his work as a field of negotiation in which identity, unity, and distinction are constantly redefined.
As curator Yannis Bolis notes: “The works of the Deux pièces series refer to the human condition and life; they narrate stories and are distinguished by their surreal spirit, at times subversive disposition, and their evident symbolic references. These are works that present the facets of an ambiguous world poised at a threshold, in an intermediate state — a transitional, fluid world where nothing is self-sufficient and everything is defined through networks of relationships.”
