Barbara Mavrakaki
Carte Blanche

The exhibition

Ekfrasi – yianna grammatopoulou gallery presents the solo exhibition of Barbara Mavrakaki, titled Carte Blanche.

In her new solo exhibition, Barbara Mavrakaki presents an extensive body of recent and new work, establishing surfaces as fields of inscription of experience. Using masking tape as her primary material, the artist composes relief structures through repeated interventions, creating forms that emerge gradually and almost organically.

Mavrakaki’s practice, with its transparent and fragile elements, focuses on a disciplined repetition that alludes to meditation. Each gesture is incorporated into a system of measurement and concentration. Marks and symbols organize the space, activating a distinct performativity. Forms emerge through layers, pressures, and shifts, strongly retaining the sense of human presence.

Mnemonic images recur in the works: trees in different landscapes, winter environments, traces of routes, jewellery. These references appear as inscriptions of the unconscious that engage in a subtle dialogue with the viewer. At the same time, the human figure appears as an imprint and as a residue of contact.

Something of the persistence of care permeates the entirety of the works. The traces maintain a sense of proximity that remains undefined. There, love appears as an underlying resonance.

The exhibition Carte Blanche shapes an environment of concentration. The works maintain an open relationship with an experience that continuously evolves. Each composition constitutes a field of observation and introspection, sustaining an active rhythm that does not exhaust itself.
