The exhibition
Ekfrasi – Yianna Grammatopoulou presents the solo exhibition of Angelos Skourtis entitled THE POETRY OF MEMORY.
In this body of work, the artist presents a series of pieces which, although each maintains its own independence and identity, collectively dissolve the notion of opposition and boundaries between terms such as Full and Empty, Artwork and Space, transforming the exhibition space into a unified field.
Through his works, Skourtis makes an inward, contemplative reference to the journey of the gaze through the paths of the multifaceted world of modern art, and to the memories these paths have left upon his soul. He hopes that these visual and artistic references will activate and move the viewer, while at the same time leaving them free to see whatever they wish, unburdened by excessive theoretical explanations or interpretive frameworks that might constrain the imagination during the personal and solitary experience of viewing.
In this way, the viewer—also becoming part of the space—is invited to surrender to the experience, to be carried along, and to retrieve memories of their own personal journey, creating their own references, images, and thoughts that bring to the surface their individual “mental poetry” in all its unexpected and powerful forms.
